Salary
Interns will receive $40,000 in annual wages. The internship year begins on July 14, 2025 and ends on July 11, 2026 of the following year.
University Benefits
As an exempt Administrative and Professional employee, doctoral interns will receive full university benefits including leave time, insurance, and retirement investments.
This includes:
- 8 hours accrued per month sick leave
- 13.34 hours accrued per month vacation leave (5 days of which will be used at the end of internship)
- 10 university holidays and approximately 2 weeks off between the middle of December and the beginning of the new year
- 5 days of professional leave (for professional development such as conference attendance or dissertation defense)
Employees of Auburn University must make a mandatory employee contribution to the Teachers’ Retirement System of Alabama. All contributions to the retirement system are tax deferred for federal income tax purposes until retirement or withdrawal from the plan.

Additional Benefits
Voluntary retirement plan. These tax deferred annuity plans offer tax and retirement benefit advantages which reduce your gross wages before federal and state taxes are computed. Generally, you are allowed to invest up to certain amounts in these plans and the University matches your contributions up to a certain level.
- Interns are allowed research time that may be used either for in-house research or dissertation completion
- Interns are eligible to purchase a faculty/staff parking permit
- Interns may obtain staff library privileges
- Interns may utilize recreational facilities at the Recreation and Wellness Center ($25 per month)
- Interns may be approved to attend off-site workshops or conferences at the discretion of the training director, as well as other on-campus continuing education activities sponsored by Student Counseling Services
- As employees of Auburn University, interns are covered in the performance of their professional duties under the university liability policy
The Facilities
Student Counseling & Psychological Services is housed in two campus locations. Intern offices are located on the second floor of the Auburn University Medical Clinic. This building also houses the campus medical clinic. SCPS’s other location is on the bottom floor of Haley Center. Staff meetings and clinical staffing meetings are held at the Haley Center office.
Resources within the facility include:
- A private office equipped with a desktop computer, printer and Ethernet access
- Auburn University email account
- Intern offices have video cameras and microphones.
- Each office is equipped with a panic button for added security
Administrative and Technical Support
Interns enjoy the same access to clerical support as the senior staff with front office staff available to answer phones and schedule client appointments.
Access to Division of Student Affairs OIT staff is available to assist all staff with computer hardware and software issues.
